I'm excited to announce that Love Story, my new collection of poems and quotes, will be available just in time for Valentine's Day!
Inside Love Story, you'll find quotes from my small-town novels, along with never-before-seen poems about love, heartbreak, laughter and life in a small town. Until now, most of the poems had been tucked away inside the pages of an old journal. When I lived in South Carolina, the beach on Sullivan’s Island was my favorite place to write, and that's where many of the poems in Love Story were born.
My hope is that you enjoy the new ballads that live inside the covers of this book. And also, I hope that you find it a safe place to land when you feel like venturing back into the sleepy, little towns of New Milford, Sweet Home and Ava.
So, in short, this book is old, and this book is new. But like all my small-town stories, this book is ultimately a love story—from my heart to yours.
Love Story will be available February 11 on Amazon and Amazon Unlimited. You can pre-order your copy today! Happy Reading!

Back before everyone left the little town of Sweet Home to the ghosts, she was the girl next door. And he was the boy, who could never get on her father’s good side. But none of that mattered. The only thing that mattered was that her heart had picked him.
But that was years ago. And now, Berlin’s sister is praying for someone to show up to take her brother’s mind off the girl from his past. And surely enough, that someone does. But will this girl be able to cut the chains of his first love or will she just make him fall harder for that little girl he left behind in Sweet Home, Missouri?
One week is all they have.
THANK YOU, Mrs. Bade’s classes, for your sweet notes! I just read all of them, and I love them all.
I so enjoyed talking to you about writing. You guys are already amazing writers. Keep writing! 😁

Most people call her Delilah. But he called her Daisy. He was seventeen and a guest in her family’s home the summer she turned fifteen. They weren’t supposed to fall in love. But Everton knew two things early on. One: He knew that she was a rule he was most likely going to break. And two: He knew that if anyone discovered their secret, he would be forced to leave. That day came in early August. And it came without warning—or a goodbye. Now, she’s twenty-one. He’s twenty-three. And she’s standing right in front of him—close enough to touch. But he can’t. It’s been six, long years, but one thing remains: she’s still forbidden. And this time, he can’t cross the line. 🌙💞

The lights were on in Kansas City's Union Station Friday, and the fashion-forward came ready for one of Kansas City Fashion Week's most anticipated nights. Sequins, flower prints and even some ram's horns made their appearance in the third of four shows this week. Friday night, eight local and regional designers debuted their spring and summer 2020 collections. Neville Miller and I had the pleasure of speaking with a few of those designers. Check out our interviews and photos from the show below!
I'm so excited to be a part of KC Fashion Week's fall show again this year. I'll be there Friday with KMBC Meteorologist Neville Miller, prior to the show, talking to designers about their collections and inspirations. Follow me on Instagram for live updates, photos and behind-the-scenes sneak peeks. I'll see you Friday!

“One of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read." -Jelena's Book Blog
I wrote Butterfly Weeds 11 years ago! It was my debut novel. For months, I feverishly scratched Will and Julia's story onto sticky notes and envelopes. When I wasn't writing it, I was dreaming about writing it. It was definitely a labor of love. And it holds a special place in my heart still today! It's a story about living in a small town, about first loves and young love and second chances, and I hope you get a chance to pick up a copy, if you haven't already! You can find it on Amazon in e-book and paperback and on Lulu in hardcover. Happy Reading! ♥ Laura
Back cover summary
Julia Lang expected a nice night away from the office—free of thoughts about the case, her failed engagement, her past. But she should have known better. Her past haunted her every chance it got these days, and tonight it came in the form of lyrics she never expected to hear again—not after a decade, not in the arms of another man and definitely not in the form of a confession.
Now, Julia must discover for herself if the song—and more importantly, the man behind it—is enough to leave her new life for her small-town, Missouri roots and a second chance at love.
“A beautifully written love story. ... This one took a turn I didn’t see coming.”

I write about rain on tin roofs, gravel roads, old trucks with holes in the floorboards and small-town summer nights. I grew up on a farm in a little Midwestern town. Now, I live in Kansas City, Mo., with my weatherman husband.
