Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays. I'm not sure what it is. In fact, I rarely celebrate it on the actual day, and before I was married, I rarely had a Valentine, unless you count my sister--and I do.

All the same, I still love all the big, red heart balloons and the stuffed animals that rival baby elephants! And of course, I love the love stories!

So...if you have a love story of your own you’d like to share, I’ll be sharing some of your stories on my Facebook page throughout the month of February! Just include it in the comments to this post.

My forever love story started when I was 18. That's the year my husband and I first met. I was a freshman. He was a sophomore. We were both on the university's track team.

However, it wasn't until four years later that he started making his “moves.” All of a sudden, he was “coincidentally” everywhere -- at my mailbox, checking his mail for the third time; in my apartment living room, watching People Under the Stairs
; sitting at my kitchen table, eating tacos.

Friends turned into best friends. And seven months after our first date, he proposed on Christmas Day. We’ve been married for seven years this year! And he’s still my best friend.

“If you only knew how many cheesy Valentine’s cards I wrote you that never reached you."
~Will, My Butterfly

"Logan, if I haven’t told you today yet that I love you, find me and kick my ass. Because Logan, I’ve loved you ever since that rainy afternoon I showed up at your door. And I loved you that Monday too when you were that scared, little new girl in the third grade. I wanted to take your hand then and tell you that I’d walk with you for the rest of my life—that I’d hold your hand, so you’d never have to walk alone, so you’d never have to be scared. And the only reason I didn’t is because Doug Sorenson said you had some kind of reptile (yeah, reptile) disease and that if I even went near you that I’d die in three seconds flat.

And, yeah, I believed him until he made you that dumb Valentine’s card the next year and stuck all those lame hearts all over it. Damn Sorenson. Anyway, Logan, the point here is that I love you. I love you forever and a day. "

I write about rain on tin roofs, gravel roads, old trucks with holes in the floorboards and small-town summer nights. I grew up on a farm in a little Midwestern town. Now, I live in Kansas City, Mo., with my weatherman husband.
